Also known as Prime Time, American Raspberry is another sketch comedy along the lines of the horribly dated Groove Tube and the gloriously tasteless Kentucky Fried Movie. It’s not a classic by any means – there are some staggeringly racist moments (a spoof ad for Puerto Rican airlines), some baffling misfires (a parody of Charlie’s Angels featuring a cast of obese actors should be funny, but it isn’t) and a heavy reliance on bad taste and smut, but Prime Time still manages to rise above its obviously skimpy budget to deliver a few solid politically incorrect laughs. The cast includes Murphy Dunne (the Blues Brothers), the splendidly named Kinky Friedman and a pre-Spinal Tap Harry Shearer.
