Synopsis

David Bowie is perfectly cast as the taut, worried, young returned solider struggling to survive against the background of a tortured and decadent Berlin of the 1930s. Unable to find employment, he turns to the life of a gigolo, working for `Madame` Marlene Dietrich (in her first screen performance in 17 years) against the fearful backdrop of the rise of the Nazis. A poignant, sometimes humorous portrait of the period with many striking images and moments of beauty, stylishly directed by David Hemmings with soundtrack from Manhatten Transfer.
