Synopsis

'Plough Your Own Furrow' & 'Say Little Hen... ?' The first two programmes of this long-running T.V. hit! One of the most delightful and popular of family comedies, The Good Life brings laughter and hope to suburbia! At the age of forty and caught up in the frustrations of suburban living, Tom Good makes a sudden radical change to his lifestyle - and that of his wife Barbara. He gives up his job and all the comforts afforded by a good salary, to try a life of self-sufficiency in Surbiton. Under the disbelieving eye of their neighbours, Jerry and Margo Leadbetter, the Goods first sell their car and buy a rotary cultivator to plough up the gardens - back and front! The arrival of the first of the livestock - a goat - Margo views with some apprehension. Even Jerry winces a little when Barbara paints the greenhouse pink to house the chickens. But to what lengths will they go to get the hens to lay?
