Synopsis

One man's tragic search for the American dream
A Vietnam veteran (David Carradine) recently returned from the war and shattered by his experiences takes to the road. His travels lead him to a sleepy town in Kansas where, across from the local store he finds a run down long neglected carousel. This strikes a chord within the man who, although he has no money, devotes himself to restoring magic to the painted horses, finding odd jobs to pay for his materials. The soldier is befriended by a young girl (Barbara Hershey) whose shy approaches grow into a love that, despite opposition from the town's tightly knit community, is symbolised by the transformation of the carousel.
