Synopsis

"Call To Glory" is a story of the Cuban crisis, of death, fear and of the men that went on dangerous spy missions for the sake of their country. It is dedicated to "the men and women of 4080th. Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, who gave dearly, to their country in the hour of need". Centred around the Sarnac family, it stars Craig T. Nelson as Col. Raynor Sarnac, an air force officer whose military responsibilities are often in conflict with his family needs. And although each day he risks his life in an attempt to acquire secret military information about the Communist infiltration into Cuba, he has to come to terms with the repercussions that such a dangerous job has on his family, and the fear that they constantly feel When his small son witnesses a plane crash, it takes another tragedy before he can speak again. In "Call To Glory", the hazardous tasks of the U2 pilot [sic], dramatically photographed on their daredevil missions, are cleverly juxtaposed with genuine film footage of Kennedy and his speeches on the problems that faced America during the Cuban crisis.
