Synopsis

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and the Lady Diana Spencer
At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 24th February 1981, Buckingham Palace made the following announcement:- 'It is with the greatest pleasure that The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh announce the betrothal of their beloved son, The Prince of Wales, to the Lady Diana Spencer, daughter of the Earl Spencer and the Honourable Mrs Shand Kydd.' So ended years of speculation as to who Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, would marry. For the first time in 300 years the heir to the throne of Britain was to marry an Englishwoman, 20 year old Lady Diana Spencer born of one of Britain's most noble families. People all over the world looked forward to the 29th July, 1981 and the splendour and magnificence of a state ceremony that only Britain could stage. As this cassette illustrates they were nor disappointed. The biggest ITV outside broadcast ever mounted enables us to relive on cassette a day never to be forgotten, a most glorious example of pageantry and colour, a day when millions united in celebration and happiness. The cassette also contains a rare interview with the Royal couple and highlights of the Wedding's Eve celebrations. Introduced by Ronald Allison - former Press Secretary to Her Majesty the Queen, currently Controller of Thames Television's Sports and Outside Broadcast Department.
