Wilbur Whateley comes to Miskatonic University from Dunwich - a town which has a legendary history of weird and evil happenings. He meets Nancy, a University student, and persuades her to let him see a rare book on the occult which is forbidden to the public. He manages to memorise passages from it before Dr. Henry Armitage, a lecturer, discovers Wilbur is the great-grandson of Oliver Whateley, who was hanged as a demon!
