Her fathers sets off in pursuit with his lifelong friend Standing Bear. During her stay at the camp Beth comes to realise that not only has she fallen in love with Grayeagle but that Running Wolf, the old chief, is in fact her real father and she has been brought to the camp so that he can see her once before he dies. Returning to the cabin Standing Bear and Beth are attacked by Shoshones. Grayeagle arrives just in time to distract them and give Beth and her friend a chance to escape but in doing so he apparently sacrifices his own life. But for Beth and her father there is a surprise ahead...
