Action-packed Western adventure with plenty of suspense along the trail of stolen gold. Lee Calloway, otherwise known as Sartana, has to arrange a prison escape for the notorious Douglas gang. He agrees to do this in exchange for half the gold they had stolen from the U.S. Army. En route, the Douglas brothers disarm Lee and would have killed him but for the intervention of a young Mexican. But Lee manages to steal the brothers' weapons and dispose of one of the gang. He now becomes the hunted, not the hunter, and might have died from hunger and thirst if he had not met a mysterious woman, Esther. All the same, she tries to get the reward offered for Lee's capture. He escapes to resume his search for the notorious Douglas brothers, of whom only two still remain alive.
