Harry is a selfish, self-indulgent, fun-loving man. Driving a beautiful sports car, wearing the best clothes, living expensively, he denies himself nothing. Unfortunately, Harry is penniless. He lives entirely on the money his wife Erica gives him. Erica is away on one of her many trips to Europe looking for excitement, but this time has refused to send him any more money. Things become desperate, but Harry is as unwilling to work as he is to give up his way of life. To support his expensive tastes, Harry finds a series of rich girls whom he tricks into giving him money. During one of his trips to town, Harry sees a beautiful and obviously wealthy young girl walking her dog. Through an accomplice he contrives a meeting with the girl, Christine. He is very charming and attentive to her, and she eventually falls in love with him. Harry takes her back to his wife's beautiful country estate which of course he says belongs to him. After a walk in the grounds they are in bed together when Erica returns unexpectedly back from Europe. Harry tries to keep the two women apart, but they finally meet and Erica makes plain her interest in Christine. To his dismay, Christine returns her feelings and after a disturbing evening, discuss a life together that definitely does not include Harry. To avoid losing his wife, and his source of income, Harry kills Christine, and frames Erica as the murderer. She is forced to agree to continue to support Harry and to stay with him. Harry then buries the body in the garden. They decide to sell the house and start a new life abroad. Harry had hidden the murder weapon from Erica, but she tricks him into revealing its hiding place. A most unusual and unexpected twist then brings the film to its climax.
