Synopsis

On February 22, 1985, almost thirty major jazz artists gathered at Town Hall in New York City to celebrate the one element that they all had in common: a significant relationship with Blue Note Records. From their initial consent to the burden of travelling from all parts of the world to the strenuous, structured rehearsals to the performance itself, these magnificent artists left their own careers and egos behind to celebrate the hard work and communal spirit that made Blue Note Records one of the most important and joyous labels in the history of music. They were there for each other and for the common goal of spontaneous, creative music. Their genius and commitment was evident not only in the notes they played, but also in their faces and gestures. All of these men came to play. Nothing else mattered. That is as it should be. The generous spirit of these great artists filtered down to the hundred or more people that worked on this event in every area from contracts to staging. This historic evening is preserved for the eye and the ear in the two volume video cassette of "One Night With Blue Note". Magic is a rare commodity.
