Synopsis

Rescued from the Thames after attempting suicide Francesca Cunningham puzzles doctors by refusing to say what has caused her acute depression. Dr. Larsen, an eminent psychiatrist, places Francesca under narco-hypnosis to discover the reason. In a trance, Francesca relates her past life. Left an orphan, Francesca goes to live with her guardian, a strange brooding figure. He sends her to the Royal Academy of Music, where she falls in love with Peter, a Canadian. Nicholas disapproves, putting an end to the romance by taking Francesca to study in Paris. Francesca is attracted by famous artist Maxwell Leyden. Nicholas, furious, cannot prevent their elopement. Their car crashes and catches fire. Rescuing Max from the flames, Francesca injures her hands. Although her burns are merely superficial, Francesca believes that she will never be able to play again. Larsen manages to cure her fixation and unite her to the man she really loves Nicholas.
