Synopsis

Sissel Fowler takes you through all the basic yoga postures in a 104 minute easy-to-follow sequence of three lessons clearly illustrated both on video and in an accompanying pamphlet of diagrams. Sissel is a senior yoga tutor well versed in the teaching of yoga and her comprehensive notes included with this video will go a long way towards educating the beginner. Also included are breathing techniques for deep relaxation and breathing exercises which will eventually become your natural breathing cycle, giving you more energy and stamina. Yoga for health will improve your posture, health and breathing. Sissel Fowler was born in Oslo, Norway, but has been living in Oxford for the last 20 years. Her husband is a Medical Practitioner and University teacher and they have two teenage sons. Sissel took up yoga 12 years ago and has been teaching for 9 years. She is also a student at the Open University. Sissel teaches classes at every level from Beginners to Advanced. Together with a male colleague she has been running a highly successful course for Yoga Teachers at Oxford College of Further Education for the last five years. She also runs a meditation group, leads occasional retreats and has experience in teaching the handicapped. This tape is based on short introductory courses she teaches at a Medical Centre in Oxford and is designed to be a gentle, but thorough introduction to Yoga. Sissel is the senior tutor and member of the Education Committee of the Albion Yoga Movement. Her own teacher is the eminent Alan Balington. She also holds the British wheel of Yoga Teachers' Diploma and the City & Guilds Further Education Teachers' Certificate. She started Oxford Yoga Group and has been its chairman for many years. GUIDELINES TO YOGA PRACTICE © Sissel Fowler. THIS COURSE. The tape contains three lessons of Yoga Postures and Breath Awareness and ends with a lesson in Deep Relaxation. There are two types of Yoga exercises: moving ones with breath and movement synchronised and static ones which are held while breathing evenly through the nose. As you get stronger perform the moving postures 5-10 times. The static postures can be held for ½ minute to 5 minutes depending on how strenuous the posture is. The twists, Forward Bends and Inverted Postures are the ones you will eventually want to hold for several minutes.
