Synopsis

The violent story of Mad Dog Morgan
In 1953 a 20 year old youth named Daniel Morgan joins the fevered rush for gold in the British colonies of Victoria and New South Wales. All around him fabulous fortunes are made and squandered, but he has little luck. Disillusioned and penniless, Morgan drifts into petty crime and in 1854 is caught after holding up a shepherd from whom he steals just a few clothes. Taken before a merciless judge who sees transgressors of the law providing an admirable work force for the growing nation, Morgan is unjustly sentenced to twelve years hard labour in the infamous prison "Success". For six years Morgan experiences the horrors of "Success", where he is brutalised and degraded, until in 1860 he is released on parole. A seething hybrid of resentment and bitterness, he disappears into the bush and never reports back for parole. Once again the "Mad Dog" is loose.
