Synopsis

The film version of the extraordinary play that put Harold Pinter on the map. The Birthday party has been described as a comedy of menace, a dramatic expose of contemporary man's inability to cope with his fears and guilt. Set in a shabby English seaside boarding house, seemingly inane and trivial conversation erupts from the comic into the terrifying. Classic acerbic Pinter.
