On one level Nothing But The Night is an adventure thriller with a high tension chase at the centre of the action. Special Branch man Bingham (Christopher Lee) and pathologist Ashley (Peter Cushing) pursue a violent ex-prostitute, powerfully played by Diana Dors, when she sets out to find her child which she claims has been kidnapped by the trustees of a sinister orphanage on a Scottish island. On another level this film is a deeply horrifying mystery. The shattering climax on bonfire night at the orphanage touches those parts of the human psyche men dream to contemplate. An exceptionally frightening thriller.
