Synopsis

Alan Bates delivers a superb and disturbing performance as Crossley the asylum inmate whose claims to ancient aboriginal powers include the ability to kill with a shout and to possess the souls of others. Jerzy Skolimowski directed The Shout, maintaining a masterful atmosphere of evil from beginning to end as reality and fantasy weave a web of dark uneasy drama in stark contrast to the pleasant English country setting. Of course, Crossley's tale, as told to author Robert Graves, is merely the product of a disturbed mind... or is it?
