Synopsis

The eccentric Berry family - Father, Mother, Frank, John, Franny, Lilly, Egg and grandfather Iowa Bob - come together with a performing bear, a flatulent dog, a group of Viennese terrorists and a girl in a bear suit in this extraordinary film based on John Irving's outrageously funny - and tragic - best seller. Heartache, hilarity and happiness befall them as they move from New Hampshire to Vienna, and back. Tony Richardson, famed for his Oscar winning 'Tom Jones', directs this bizarre modern fairy tale, with Jodie Foster as the forthright Fanny and Nastassja Kinski as Susie the Bear.
