Synopsis

PART II 1943 - 1959... TO MY FATHER AND FRIENDS
Warsaw, 1939 the story of Grayewski, a Jew from the ghetto. His mother and his brothers later gassed in Treblinka, his father dies fighting during the uprising. Martin, survives the extermination decided by the Nazis. A resistance fighter, then an officer of the N.K.V.D. in the Red Army, he enters Berlin in 1945 to avenge all his people. He is twenty years old. Having deserted, he emigrates to New York, where he is taken in by a maternal grandmother, the only person of his family to have survived the European genocide. In the United States, by sheer work, Martin becomes a powerful and rich man. Ten years of fragile happiness built up day after day in the South of France end up in disaster, his young wife, Dina, and his four children perish in a forest fire, a fire which brings back to Martin Gray's mind his past, until then buried in his subconscious. Fate, which irrevocably determines the course of events has made Martin Gray's life an exemplary testimony of our century, of its wars and barbaric violence.
