A Story of guts, determination and the desperate will to live. George Attla, champion sled dog racer, is born into the harsh isolation of a fur trapping family in the spectacular wilderness of Alaska. but, his happy yet desolate adolescence is cruelly shattered by tuberculosis. Seven years in a city hospital, separated from his distant family, cure him but leave him crippled and torn between the lure of 'civilisation' and his roots in the unspoiled wilderness. Gradually he finds ambition and hope in sled dog racing - a sport that demands the endurance and strength of a marathon racer. In an unforgettable climax, this unknown cripple and his dogs pit their courage and skill against the world's champions across the empty vastness to far north.
