CHALLENGE OF THE SKY shows the work of the Royal Aircraft Establishment where problems of aerospace travel are thoroughly researched. It was here the idea of Concorde was born and we are shown some of the research undertaken before Concorde took to the air. we also see some of the detective work to discover the reasons for aircraft accidents - another side of the R.A.E.s duties.
The second film is a visit to the 24th Exhibition and Flying Display organised by the Society of British Aerospace Companies and held at Farnborough in Hampshire. civil, military and research aircraft from many countries are here and the flying display includes a breathtaking performance by the Red Arrows in their new Hawk aircraft.
