A saga of' intrigue and power within the automobile industry, it spans five decades of the wealthy Hardeman dynasty, the most powerful of all the Hardemans being Loren Hardeman Sr (known as Number One), the influential founder of the giant Bethlehem Motor Corporation. Hardeman Sr is played by Laurence Olivier, with other roles going to Robert Duvail, Katharine Ross, Tommy Lee Jones, Jane Alexander and Lesley-Anne Down.
