Synopsis

THE TERROR OF HIGH PLACES, THE THRILL OF HIGH ADVENTURE.
Suddenly people were shooting at him, kidnapping him, threatening him with knives, and demanding ten million dollars in stolen money. At first he didn't like it... A man, already dead is being sent over a cliff on the outskirts of Los Angeles, California in a car to fake an accident. The dead man is supposedly James Hatcher (Christopher Plummer), heir to the vast Hatcher Industries. Lewis Kinney (Richard Harris) knows nothing of this. An unemployed British accountant and a bachelor he is enjoying the pleasures of lotus land and dreading the day when he'll be forced to return to his frigid homeland. Fate deems otherwise. He meets beautiful Lise Hatcher (Beverly D'Angelo) and her terminally ill elderly mother (Kate Reid) by accident. This leads the older woman to offer him a job as a chauffeur and bodyguard to Lise. He accepts, and soon he finds himself involved in deadly intrigue that includes the CIA, the Mafia, and a missing $10 million. Reports of Hatcher's death turn out to have been greatly exaggerated, and he turns up to prove every bit as dangerous as the men trying to capture him and find the missing money. The bloody trail leaves bodies from Los Angeles to Lake Arrowhead to Quebec City before the action switches to Toronto where HIGHPOINT takes on its final meaning. Kinney under indictment for tour murders committed by the supposedly-deceased Hatcher, must locate Hatcher and the elusive $10,000,000 in order to exonerate himself and get off the book with the pursuing Mafia and CIA. He also has to get Lise away from Hatcher before she is killed with him. He accomplishes this in a breathtaking chase in carriages through the streets of old Quebec City. Kinney and Lise still have to intercept the $10,000,000 before it is passed to Hatcher, and the adventure concludes with a chase through the inner core and exposed ledges of Toronto's CN Tower, the world's tallest free-standing structure. Still chased by a dozen dedicated killers, Kinney and Hatcher pursue each other, and the money, balancing on narrow perches 1,150 feet above the streets of Toronto... it's deadly at the top.
