Synopsis

Puccini's Trittico consists of three one act operas, each satisfying of itself, yet sinfully contrasted to make up a thrilling complete programme. The chilling melodrama of Il Tabarro, the sentiment of Suor Angelica and the wit and brilliance of Gianni Schicchi are matched with the genius which has made La Bohème, Madame Butterfly and Tosca such established favourites.

In this live recording with stereo sound from Milan's legendary Teatro alla Scala, Piero Cappuccilli is the vindictive Michelein Il Tabarro, British soprano Rosalind Plowright makes her Scala debut in the title role of Suor Angelica, and Juan Pons portrays the artful Gianni Schicchi in Puccini's only comedy.
