Synopsis

Jazz - for many music-lovers the mere mention of the word conjures up the name Brubeck. This 'videography' gives a penetrating insight into Dave Brubeck's personality as well as a reflection of the full range of his music. Featured on this videogram is the '76 Silver Jubilee concert that his celebrated quartet, together with Brubeck's sons, gave at Symphony Hall, Boston. It was one of the last appearances that saxophonist Paul Desmond made before his death the following year. Desmond's' sax solo was the key-note performance in the classic Take Five, one of many highlights from a partnership lasting nearly thirty years. From his beautiful Connecticut home, Dave Brubeck talks about his life in music and the crucial links between the classical music he grew up with, and the jazz style on which he has made such an indelible impression. Included in this BBC videobook are full versions of many of the most famous numbers associated with Dave Brubeck: Take Five, Balcony Rock, Three to get Ready, Unsquare Dance, Brandenburg Gate, and others.
