Synopsis

This BBC Videobook introduces a completely new kind of birdwatching - instantly accessible at the touch of a button. The BBC Natural History Unit is renowned for its wildlife programmes and has now used its expertise to come up with an innovative approach. This is the most authoritative video guide to British garden birds yet produced. It combines, as no ordinary book can, specially selected films of the birds in flight, birdsong and all the factual information necessary for identification in a single, easy to use unit. Add to this the expert presentation of David Attenborough and the result is a living video reference book which adds a new dimension to bird watching. Over 70 species of birds found in British town and country gardens are covered, ranging from the common to the unusual. They are shown n the order used in current field guides. THE WILDLIFE MAN. Throughout a long career as a broadcaster, David Attenborough has fascinated large audiences with his lucid and compelling explanations of the natural world and its wildlife. After taking a degree in Zoology, David joined the BBC in the early 1950s as a producer and soon began to build up a reputation as a wildlife expert. He is now best know for classic series like the award-winning "Life on Earth" and "Tribal Eye". These owe their existence to another part of David's career - a time when he was not actively involved in programme making. In 1965 he became controller of BBC2 and was subsequently Director of BBC Television programmes. During that period he advanced the idea of major series, which dealt with dauntingly vast subjects in considerable detail. David is equally at home with more intimate subjects. To all his work, as both broadcaster and writer, he brings an infectious enthusiasm, allied to expert knowledge. His aim is always to increase awareness of wildlife and the threats to which it is subject in modern times - and what better place to understand the world around us than in our own gardens. As David Attenborough says "A garden without wild birds would be a very dead place indeed."
