On an official visit to Moscow, Canadian TV reporter, Nicole Thomson (GENEVIEVE BUJOLD) becomes involved in a daring bid to smuggle a young child — the grand-daughter of a dissident — to the west where she can receive vital medical treatment

Her personal loyalties are put to the ultimate test when she must choose between the child and the high-ranking Soviet official (MICHAEL YORK) with whom she has fallen in love.
