A Small Time Murder Explodes The Big Time Operations of The Mob

When mob leader Joe Spillane sets his sights on the profitable antique business owned by Howard and Dan Bronstein, he makes them an offer they can't refuse. But one of the partners does refuse he dies for it. His murder, engineered by Spillane, is made to look like a street mugging pulled off by two small-time hoods, the kind that happens every day in New York.

But Gus Brenner, a hard- nosed investigator for the District Attorney's office, senses that something big is involved in the killing and he tracks down Spillane like a panther prowling for prey.

His investigation comes under fire from City Hall. Mobster Spillane has friends in high places. But Gus Brenner persists until he is victorious in bringing Spillane to justice in a tense, climatic murder trial.
