Willa, poignantly interpreted by Deborah Raffin, does not intend to end up like her ineffectual, alcoholic mother. She decides to become independent and responsible for her own life. A decision that leads to her conquering the handling of a monstrous rig, whilst at the same time causing her a humiliating experience that is to have long term consequences.
