Synopsis
When a ranch-owner horrifyingly disintegrates before his family's eyes, the centuries-old threat of a betrayed witch is realized.
HEAVEN HELP US ALL WHEN "THE DEVIL'S RAIN"
As torrential rains pound the Preston ranch, Emma Preston (IDA LUPINO) anxiously waits for the return of her husband Steve and son Mark (WILLIAM SHATNER). Mark who has been searching for his father enters alone convinced that the elder Preston is a victim of flooding. The sudden banging on their door reveals a figure resembling Steve Preston who, as he incants words about the Devil, horrifyingly begins to melt before their eyes. The last two words from his disintegrating lips are "Jonathan Corbis". Three centuries before, Jonathan Corbis (ERNEST BORGNINE) had led a coven of witches in a puritan town in New England from which the Prestons descend. Ancestors of the Prestons had betrayed Corbis and his Satanists by concealing their sacred book in which Corbis had inscribed the names of the people who had given themselves to the devil. As long as the book is out of Corbis' hands, he is unable to deliver these souls to Satan. Townspeople arrest Corbis and his followers, but before he is burned at the stake, he makes a vow to avenge himself on his betrayers.
