A terrifying battle of wits between a bank robber and a bank teller. But who is robbing and who is telling? Miles Cullen (Elliott Gould) is a respectable but dull bachelor in his mid-thirties who works as a head-teller in a bank. He is interested only in tropical fish and in his attractive colleague Julie (Susannah York) whose response to him is barely lukewarm since she us already having an affair with the bank manager..... It is a few days before Christmas and a petty criminal, Harry Reikle (Christopher Plummer) has plans to rob the bank, disguised as Santa Claus. His first attempt is thwarted by the innocent attentions of a small boy but his behaviour in the bank has not gone unnoticed by Cullen who prepares for the thief's return....
