Synopsis

There is always something special about the Open when it returns to the Old Course at St. Andrews, the home of golf. The 1984 Championship is no exception. Played in glorious weather and in front of record crowds, the event once more produces a classic ending. Prominent in the action are the sensational unknown, Ian Baker-Finch from Australia, Bernhard Langer the consistent West German, American star Lanny Wadkins, the amazing Tom Watson, defending his title, and Spain's Seve Ballesteros. Not for the first time the infamous Road Hole plays a decisive role and in a pulsating finish Ballesteros edges out Watson to take his second British Open title. Narrator: Fulton Mackay. Commentator: Peter Alliss
