Synopsis

She reached for freedom and paid the price
New Orleans, 1900. When Edna Pontellier realises she needs to be more than a devoted wife and mother, she embarks on a course of self-discovery that will change her life, and the lives of those around her. Torn between duty to her family and the aching need for sensual love, she falls prey first to the flattering attentions of handsome young Robert, and then to the charms of the dashing and romantic Arobin. Her life takes on a dream-like quality. But dreams must end Based on the novel The Awakening by Kate Chopin, The End of August is a film that men may find disturbing, and one in which many women will find painful parallels with their own inner feelings.
