The Thirty Years War has ravaged Medieval Europe when Vogel, a wanderer, played by Omar Sharif, stumbles upon the last valley of the title - an oasis of peace and prosperity in a world of rampant destruction. But the peace of the valley is soon disturbed by the arrival of The Captain (Michael Caine) and his band of battle-weary troops. The soldiers decide to hide in the valley for the winter and spare the people in return for food and shelter. But now dark tensions begin to surface, jealousy, conflicting faith, treachery and lust begin to transform the last valley into a vale of nightmares from which the people will only awake when the soldiers finally depart.
