James Robertson Justice plays Sir Ernest Pease a crusty director of aeronautics shot down over Germany while posing as a naval officer to see how his radar is working. Captured and taken to Stalag Luft 10, he keeps his identity a secret, even from his fellow captives. Then a message comes through that he is to be helped to escape - urgently.
