Synopsis

SCRATCHIN' & MAKIN' IT, RAPPIN' & BREAKIN' IT ON BEAT STREET
In the South Bronx, the gangwars of the 60's have given way to the hip-hop culture. No longer do warlords and their gangs roam the streets possessively guarding their territory. But rather, Break Dancers, Rappers, Deejays and graffiti artists have expanded their territory and goals beyond immediate physical borders. They are now part of the vanguard in the contemporary worlds of dance music and art. 'Beat Street' deals with the despairs, dreams, hopes and eventual triumphs of young Kenny, an aspiring Deejay, and his younger brother, Lee a break dance innovator. The film tells of their involvement with Chollie, a youthful dynamo who tries to harness their talents; Ramon, a proud-spirited graffiti artist; Henry, a white army deserter and Tracey a college music major with a very different musical background. Featured In 'Beat Street' are the incredible New York City Breakers and Rock Steady Crew and the sensational music of Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force plus Shango and many more.
