Synopsis

Beautiful actress Madeleine Charron is having recurring nightmares brought on by her role in her husband's theatre production of Poe's classic thriller MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE. When a member of the cast is brutally murdered, his face burnt with vitriol, police inspector Vidocq arrives to investigate. Soon, he has two more identical slayings to deal with. The evidence points to Marot, an actor whose face was disfigured by vitriol years ago in an accident on stage involving Madeliene's mother. But Marot is dead. Or is he...!

Rather dull, predictable and tame murder thriller set amongst a Victorian theatre troop. The killer is known from the start so there's zero 'who dunnit' and all the action and gore is off screen. This really is a disappointing effort. I guess the acting is ok for its era but the tale has been better told elsewhere. Watching this like eating sugarless shredded wheat on a dreary grey Wednesday morning One for the shelf me thinks!
