In a justice system where criminals go free, lawyers and judges make deals as a matter of routine. But often the innocent go unprotected. A young lawyer, Arthur Kirkland (Al Pacino), begins to wonder whether, in fact, justice exists at all. Arthur is an honest, idealistic lawyer, who is suddenly under pressure to defend a distinguished judge (John Forsythe) accused of raping and battering a young girl - Arthur knows him to be guilty!
