Lassie, the world's most famous collie, leads a special team of animals - the Rescue Rangers. With Lassie are Old Toothless the mountain lion, a racoon [sic], an owl, a skunk, a tortoise and a porcupine - all trained by Ben Turner and his wife, together with their children Jackie, Susan and little Ben Junior. During a big storm a plane carrying two criminals crashes. The plane is loaded with dynamite and so the Rescue Rangers are called in to track down the two criminals before they can get up to any mischief with the deadly explosive. Then the police are mystified when it looks as if the Rescue Rangers have been involved in a bank robbery. But the Rescue Rangers prove their innocence and then really show their mettle. The entire city is blacked out when a power plant breaks down. The Rescue Rangers come to the stricken city's aid, and while Lassie captures looters on the city's darkened streets, old [sic] Toothless helps to control the traffic. It's all in an exciting night's work for Lassie and the Rescue Rangers!
