This tough thriller of corruption and murder in sunny Jamaica shows the darker side of the seeming island paradise. Reggae singer Jimmy Cliff is Ivan, a rebellious young country boy who leaves home for the bright lights of Kingston. Determined to make a success as a singer, he finds his progress blocked by corruption in the music business. Making a home in a poor shanty town, he earns a living supplying drugs. But when the police are themselves revealed to be racketeer, Ivan soon gets into trouble. With an excellent soundtrack featuring Desmond Dekker, the Maytals and Cliff himself.
