Synopsis

La Cenerentola is Gioachino Rossini's version of the story of Cinderella - a sparkling favourite in his repertoire. This new Glyndebourne production by celebrated opera director John Cox, captures perfectly the fairy tale spirit of the piece, with scenery designed by Allen Charles Klein, distorted like cutouts in an old-fashioned story book in tones of sepia and gold. Ths American mezzo soprano Kathleen Kuhlmann sings the title role with Marta Taddei and Laura Zannini as her spiteful sisters, Clorinda and Tisbe. Laurence Dale as Prince Ramiro, Alberto Rinaldi as Dandini, Claudio Desderi as Don Magnifico and Roderick Kennedy as Alidoro complete the cast. Donato Renzetti conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Rossini's effervescent score. "The wonder is to hear such coloratura, such evenness, such easy virtuosity (Kuhlmann)" Guardian. "The London Philharmonic are in crack form and they have a conductor to take full advantage of their fizzing expertise" Times
