In December 1944, the "Yankee Zephyr" - a U.S. navy DC-3 - vanished en route from New Guinea to New Zealand, together with its cargo of Christmas fare, service medals and the payroll for the entire South Pacific fleet. Thirty years later, Gibble Gibson stumbles upon the wreck and, together with his mate Barney and daughter Sal, plans to claim the booty. But, all too soon, a party of international criminals is on the trail, and so begins the 'Race for the Yankee Zephyr'.
