What started out as an overheated Berlin-set marital crisis becomes an increasingly bizarre and progressively more nauseating film that defies simple genre pigeon-holing - it's certainly horrific, as it's heroine's gradual embroilments in metaphysical notions of evil lead, via murder, adultery and corruption, to sexual congress with a hideous, slimy incarnation of the thing itself... very European, extremely impressive, undeniably gross, "Possession" is a unique, if frequently repulsive, experience.
