Terence Stamp plays a film director at home in the sumptuous and neurotic world of the beautiful people. One successful film behind him, he is tortured by the pressures to repeat his success. He meets 'Cresta Rose' (Corrine Clery) the queen of the strippers, at a club near his villa in the Canary Islands. He is fascinated by her beauty and her life, and her story gives him inspiration for a new film. But his attraction to her turns to love and from love to obsession - an obsession that can only end in tragedy.
