Synopsis

IT WAS JUST AN OLD NEGLECTED CAR. WHO COULD HAVE GUESSED... To the garage man Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is just an ancient racing machine dying from rust and neglect, but to Jeremy and Jemima the car is a very special plaything and friend. It can be bought for thirty shillings so they try to persuade their father, absent minded inventor Caractacus Potts to buy her for them. Unfortunately Potts is broke and his new inventions, including whistling sweets and a revolutionary hair-cutting machine, only succeed in having dire consequences. However a stint with a troupe of folk dancers which he joins to escape angry clients, is more successful and provides Potts with enough money to buy the car. After restoring Chitty, Potts suggests a trip to the seaside. The children climb aboard, together with Truly Scrumptious, daughter of the powerful Lord Scrumptious, owner of the local sweet factory, and they are soon enjoying a sunny afternoon by the sea. As Potts begins telling a story about pirates, a nearby tugboat becomes the private yacht of the evil Baron Bomburst of Vulgaria who has come to England to steal Chitty. Suddenly the vintage car develops magical qualities - it can skim like a hovercraft or fly like a plane. Potts, Truly and the children are soon pursuing the wicked Baron to his castle and a series of amazing adventures.
